Sharing is caring, we believe this to be true. And why wouldn’t you want to share your awesome iTunes library with family, friends, or colleagues?
In this post, we take a look at exactly how you do this. So, if you are keen on sharing the love and sharing your iTunes library with other Mac devices, keep on reading!
Before we continue, we have to mention that in order for you to share your library, you need to have your account open on your mac for other devices to pick or ‘see’ the library. According to Apple’s standards, terms, and conditions, sharing is for personal use only and will only work on devices on the same network.
Let’s get started!
Firstly, you need to open ‘Music Sharing’, this is how you do it:
Navigate to iTunes on your menu at the top and select iTunes, then, from the dropdown you will be able to select ‘preferences’.
In the preferences tab, select ‘Sharing’.
In the main option, “Share my library on my local network” should be selected. If not, you won’t be able to share your library at all. Ensure this is selected before continuing to specify what you want to share.
If you would like to share your entire library, select ‘share entire library’ in the sub-menu just underneath the main option.
iOs is very attuned to security and safety, and you are able to protect your data with a password. If you want users to log in to your library using a password, simply select ‘Require password’ and specify what the password should be.
Once you are happy with your selection and settings you applied, select ‘OK’.
Now, you can also customise everything and name your library whatever you would like to name it, for example, “Public”, or “Awesome Library”, it’s up to you. Here’s how you do it:
Navigate to iTunes on your Mac device and select “Preferences”
Go to ‘General’, and type in whatever you would like to call your library. Remember, keep it clean, this is the name that other users will be able to see when they connect to your library as well.
Now that you know how to setup your device to share your iTunes library, let’s see how you get connected to others’ shared libraries and how to disconnect from them.
Pro Tip: How to connect or join other libraries and how to disconnect from them
